Popularized by mixed martial arts events, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is known for being the reining martial art in ground fighting with it’s complex and effective submissions and control techniques. Jiu-jitsu principles at Hwang’s Martial Arts are greatly inspired by the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu system, incorporating all four parts of the art: grappling, stand up self-defense, throwing and takedowns, and striking.
What is Jiu-jitsu
Translated as “soft or flexible technique”, jiu-jitsu uses the opponent’s weight, direction of movement, and position to determine the measure taken to counter an attack. One uses what is presented, not forcing, but accepting.
Jiu-jitsu techniques are taught at every belt level in our school’s martial arts program. A student at Hwang’s Martial Arts trains to defend himself while standing or on the ground.
